The Casino Drill is a high-tempo handgun challenge originally designed by Rangemaster’s Tom Givens. It’s named for its 21-round count—like blackjack—and forces you to think on your feet while shooting with speed and precision.
This one blends situational awareness, target identification, transitions, reloads, and memory under pressure. It’s fast, demanding, and a whole lot of fun—assuming you’ve got your fundamentals dialed in.
Materials Needed:
- Handgun and holster (or low ready if draw not allowed)
- Two loaded magazines: one with 6 rounds, one with 15 rounds
- Shot timer
- One Casino Drill target (six numbered targets: 1–6)
- Eye and ear protection
- Tape/pasters for resetting
Setup Instructions:
- Mount the Casino Drill target at 5 yards.
- Shooter starts from the holster (or low ready) with one magazine of 6 rounds in the gun.
- The second mag (with 15 rounds) is staged for reload.
- Use a timer to track total time.
Drill Instructions:
- On the buzzer, engage target #1 with one shot.
- Move to target #2 with two shots, then #3 with three shots, and so on up to target #6 with six shots.
- You must shoot the targets in order (#1 through #6).
- You’ll be forced to reload somewhere along the way—your choice when.
- Total round count: 21 rounds.
Scoring / Pass Criteria:
- Par time: 21 seconds is considered a solid benchmark.
- All hits must be within each numbered shape.
- Penalty of +3 seconds per miss.
- Optional scoring: total time + (3 sec x misses).
Coaching Tips / Variations (Optional):
- Run the drill mirrored: target #6 first, down to #1.
- Use strong hand only, or weak hand only.
- Run it from concealment or with movement to each shot string.
- Change target size for added difficulty (e.g., use 3-inch circles instead of 5-inch).
