Greenline Tactical’s 5-5-7 Pistol Drill: A Speed and Accuracy Pistol Standard

Greenline Tactical’s 5-5-7 Pistol Drill is a demanding, precision-focused test of draw speed, shot control, and consistency under time pressure. It’s a simple setup that punishes sloppy execution — perfect for shooters looking to push beyond casual practice and tighten their fundamentals.

Materials Needed

  • Pistol and holster (concealed or duty setup)
  • 30 rounds of ammunition
  • Target with six 2-inch circles (printable or hand-drawn)
  • Shot timer

Setup Instructions

  1. Place your target at 7 yards.
  2. Begin from the holstered position, hands naturally at your sides.
  3. Ensure your timer and reloads are ready to go before you begin — this drill moves fast.

Drill Instructions
At the signal:

  1. Draw and fire five rounds into one 2-inch circle.
  2. You have a 5-second par time to complete the string.
  3. Repeat this sequence for six total strings (30 rounds total).

Scoring / Pass Criteria

  • Any shot fired after the par time counts as a miss.
  • A hit only counts if 50% or more of the bullet hole breaks the circle line.
  • Shots over time or outside the circle each cost –1 point.
  • Strive for 100% hits under time — that’s your benchmark for mastery.

Coaching Tips / Variations

  • Focus on efficiency from the draw — clean presentation matters more than raw speed.
  • Record your times and track consistency over multiple sessions.
  • For added pressure, run it cold at the start of your session.
  • To dial up difficulty, reduce the par to 4.5 seconds or move the target to 10 yards.
